Planning guide

How to plan your wedding music

You don’t need a finished set list to get started. Begin with the parts of the day you’d love live music for, and the songs that already mean something to you. We’ll help with the rest.

01 · The ceremony

Four moments to choose music for

Most ceremonies have four musical moments. You can choose a song for each, or just the aisle and leave the rest to us.

  1. 1

    Guests arriving

Gentle, familiar songs while everyone finds their seat. This is where the room starts to feel like a wedding.

  2. 2

    The aisle

Pick a song for what it means to you. We’ll shape the arrangement so the moment you reach the front lands at the right point in the song.

  3. 3

    Signing the register

Signing usually takes the length of two or three songs. A good place for something romantic you both love.

  4. 4

    Your exit

Something joyful and upbeat as you walk back down the aisle as newlyweds, with everyone cheering.

Good to know: civil ceremonies in England and Wales can’t include religious music or lyrics, so check your choices with your registrar. We’re happy to suggest alternatives.

02 · Drinks reception

The hour your guests will remember

While you’re having photos taken, your guests are mingling with a drink in hand. Acoustic music fills the gaps in conversation without drowning it out, and lifts the mood after the emotion of the ceremony.

  • Mix in familiar favourites. Songs everyone knows get guests singing along and bring different generations together.
  • Let it build. Start relaxed and let the energy rise towards the wedding breakfast.
  • Add your songs. A track from your first holiday or your first date makes it feel like yours.
  • Leave room for us. Give us a feel for your taste and we’ll read the room from there.

03 · First dance & evening

From your first dance to the last song

We’ll learn your first dance and can perform it live, as it was recorded or as a stripped-back acoustic version. Some couples start slow and have us kick into something upbeat halfway through to bring everyone onto the floor.

For the evening, our lighting rig and PA turn the room into a party, from Motown and soul to this week’s chart. Between sets we play a curated playlist, so there’s never a silent dance floor. You’re welcome to send your own.

04 · What to send us

Six things that help us plan

You don’t need every answer. Even a couple of these is plenty for our first call.

  1. 1

    Your date and venue

Or “TBC” if you’re still looking. We’ll tell you straight away if we’re free.

  2. 2

    The parts of the day

Ceremony, drinks, wedding breakfast, first dance, evening, or all of it.

  3. 3

    Songs that matter

Your aisle song, your first dance, or a song with a story behind it.

  4. 4

    Music you love

Favourite artists, eras or a playlist give us a feel for your taste.

  5. 5

    How it should feel

Romantic and relaxed, a full-on party, or a bit of both.

  6. 6

    Anything to avoid

Knowing what you don’t want helps just as much.
